Suzanne Rheinstein and Hollyhock

Suzanne opened Hollyhock to sell all the things she loved for the home but couldn’t easily find in Los Angeles.  That was over 20 years ago and since its opening Hollyhock has been an exclusive resource for designers and discerning shoppers.  Originally opened as a neighborhood shop on Larchmont Boulevard, in 2000 the shop moved to a landmark building in West Hollywood which once housed Merle Oberon’s theatre and design legend Tony Duquette’s studio.  Located near the Pacific Design Center, the antiques and decorative arts store is truly a center for the worldwide design community.  Suzanne carefully chooses every item in the store with a particular point of view, including wonderful, quirky pieces that can’t be found anyplace else.

Hollyhock features an eclectic mélange of 18th and 19th century antiques mixed with accessories, art, contemporary furniture and books on architecture and living well.  The store also features the “Hollyhock Home Collection,” Suzanne’s unique line of custom upholstery, furniture and lighting.  It represents several international product lines, including the hand-printed fabrics of England’s Robert Kime, the lighting and furniture of John Rosselli and the colorful hand-thrown lamps of Christopher Spitzmiller.  The shop is the Southern California venue for Bunny Williams’s furniture and accessory collection, BeeLine Home.  In addition, we have an extensive collection of things for the table, including antique creamware and porcelain, William Yeoward crystal, Astier de Villatte ceramics, Vladimir porcelain and Gayle Warwick linens.

In keeping with Suzanne’s commitment to supporting the cultural life of Southern California, Hollyhock has become the “city’s liveliest salon.”  With book launch parties, lectures supporting non-profit groups and other celebrations, Hollyhock is a sought after venue, feeding Angeleno’s appetites for cultural education in a fabulous setting.

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce the up-coming release of Suzanne’s book, AT HOME: A Style for Today with Things from the Past, due in November 2010.  Beautifully photographed by Pieter Estersohn, the book features six distinctive homes that express Suzanne’s relaxed yet elegant style, including her own homes in Los Angeles and New York.  We are currently taking pre-orders for signed, personalized copies. Please call or email us to reserve your copy.
